Sailing : Day 50 onboard Roxy in the Vendée Globe

Sam Davies’ daily log - Storm in a Tea Cup!

Hello everyone

Today is a sad day because my teacup is broken! The handle fell off this morning during its daily clean.

For someone who drinks so much tea, it really is quite disappointing to have equipment that is not functioning at 100%! I will be contacting Guillame (my boat builder) to discuss the best option for repair ASAP.

It is a sign of general wear-and-tear that is inevitable after more than seven weeks at sea. It is perhaps also a sign to me to do an even BIGGER check over of Roxy than normal. When the wind (and firehoses) ease tomorrow, I will do yet another full check up from bow to stern. Just yesterday I found a chaffed lashing on my boom that I re-spliced and replaced immediately.

Sometimes one must listen to one's teacup.....

At 1100 UK time, Sam Davies aboard Roxy was in 8th position, 1,530 miles from race leader Michel Desjoyeaux aboard Foncia
