Hot couple in town for big surf comp

Internationally renowned Longboarder’s Taylor Jensen and his partner Nava Young will be in Christchurch to compete in the fourth round of the Hyundai Pro Longboard Tour this coming weekend.

Twenty-six year old American, Taylor Jensen is a former US Longboard champ, finishing 11th in the world in 2008 and winning two Longboard Qualifying Series events including the US Open.

Jensen has already graced our waves in the past, winning the Kaikoura round of the 2006 Hyundai Pro Longboard Tour last time he was here.

He will be joined by his partner, Australian Nava Young who is daughter of Longboard legend and four-times World Champion Nat Young.

The talented Young has not only picked up the family love of the waves, but is also an accomplished musician with a blossoming music career which she showcases through her thriving myspace page. When Young isn’t surfing she can often be found performing with her brothers.

“We’re thrilled to have Nava and Taylor here for the tour,” says Ben Kennings, Surf NZ Event Director.

"Now in its fourth year, the Hyundai Pro Longboard Tour has developed into one of the premier surf tours for this country. With six rounds and top-quality surfing, its reputation is growing internationally. We have some other big names lined up as guests for the final rounds, I can’t name names yet, but we’re excited."

The pair can be spotted touring around in a Hyundai Santa Fe, as the sponsor of the Hyundai Pro Longboard Tour Hyundai believes in supporting up and coming surfing talent.

“The Santa Fe won it’s class in the 2008 AA Energywise Rally making it the most fuel efficient SUV in New Zealand so it is the natural choice of vehicle for many surfers. It can handle the terrain and the beach life but is also incredibly cost effective.” Said Philip Eustace, Hyundai Motors New Zealand Executive Director.

The Hyundai Pro Longboard Tour is currently led by Daniel Proctor and the next event is this weekend at New Brighton in Christchurch.
