Rubin (Jose) Statham reached the quarterfinals of the US$15,000 Men's Futures tournament in Sorrento, Australia in which he had earlier beaten Marcus Daniell (NZL). The Kiwi was was unable to topple fifth seed Marinko Matosevic (AUS) in the quarterfinal match going down in three sets.
Statham started off well taking the first set 6-3, but the Aussie came back to take the second in a tiebreak. In the third set it went Matosevic's way 6-3.
Statham is coming back to New Zealand in two weeks for the Pascoes NZ Residentials in Association with Configure Express tournament starting on the 15th December at Albany Park. Statham is the top seed for this tournament and is joined by fellow ATP players and Davis Cup members Dan King-Turner and Adam Thompson who are currently on the NZMT Circuit over the next two weeks.
Result: Marinko Matosevic (AUS) bt Jose Statham (NZL) 3-6 7-6(3) 6-3.
