Tennis : TOP KIWI JUNIORS COMPETING IN AUSTRALIAN OPEN JUNIOR SUMMER CIRCUIT

New Zealand's Briar Preston has qualified for the Traralgon Grade 1 ITF which is the first Australian Open Summer Circuit tournament.

Preston was fifth seed received a bye in the first round and then beat Australia's Bryanna Fisers 4-6 6-2 6-2 to qualify. Fellow kiwi Chelsea Te Tai had a tough second round loss against Australia's Karis Ryan going down 6-3 6-2.

Preston plays Di Zhao (Chn) in the first round, meanwhile direct entrant Katherine Westbury (NZL) takes on M Kubichikova (CZE) ranked 78 in juniors.

In the boys Main draw New Zealand has four boys competing in the main draw. NZ's top junior Jordan Kelly-Houston has drawn tenth seed A Saunders (Aus). Saunders has a ITF Junior ranking of 42 compared to Kelly-Houston's 60.

Riki McLachlan plays Italy's M.Bortolotti in his first round match, while younger brother Ben takes on Qualifier Andrew Whittington (Aus). NZ's Barrett Franks has drawn M Biryukov of Russia in his first match.
