Tennis : WELLINGTON OPEN NZMT 5 KICKS OFF TODAY

Play got underway this morning at the Renouf Tennis Centre in Wellington with the first two rounds of the men’s draw and two women’s matches. The weather threatened to delay the start but in true Wellington form the wind picked up to clear away any chance of rain.

Saturday sees the men’s seeds in action and will include number one seed Victor Romero from Mexico with an ATP ranking of 529, holidaying in NZ with his wife from Palmerston North. Other seeds include former Davis Cup players Mark Nielsen (ATP819) and Steven Downs.

Saturday will see women’s top seeds Kairangi Vano (1) and Shona Lee (2) straight to the Semi-Finals, with Dianne Hollands (3) and Brittany Teei (4) playing in the Quarter-Final rounds earlier in the morning.

On Sunday we have the Women’s Finals and the Men’s Semi-Finals and Finals.

It is free entry in to the Renouf Tennis Centre to watch the games, and the Café is open for snacks and drinks.

Friday's results: Seungwon Seo d. Hamish Duff 2-6;6-4;6-1; Warwick Foy d. Andrew Baird 6-3;6-3; Alexander Macdonald d. Denzil Boyles 6-1;6-0; Simon Brown d. Jacob Emery 6-1;6-4; Tiffany Wheelock d. Lucy Bird 6-3;6-3; Rosie Bird d. Nichola Boyles 6-1;6-4
