Sailing : Day 41 onboard Roxy in the Vendée Globe

Sam Davies’ daily log - Rescue time for Yann Eliès

“Hello everyone
Hopefully by the time you read this, the warship Arunta will be taking care of Yann. I had a phone call from the Warship early this morning and they explained to me their ETA and procedures. I "sent it" as fast as safely possible through the night, but as Generali and Safran were drifting quite fast I have not managed to rendez-vous with them. Still, I am staying here nearby until I get the confirmation that Yann is safe. Then Roxy and I will get back into the race, we've got a bit of catching up to do!! After 45 knots yesterday, the skies have cleared and the wind has dropped, and Roxy is trickling along quite slowly with big gennaker and full main. I am so thankful for these conditions as this will make Yann's transfer much easier and safer. The Weather Gods are definitely looking after him now. As you can see in the photo, I am making the most of this rare moment of peaceful sunshine to dry everything off! You never know when the next opportunity will be!

At 1100 UK time, Sam Davies aboard Roxy was in 10th position, 1183.7 miles from race leader Michel Desjoyeaux aboard Foncia
