The men's semi-final was an epic battle between fifth seed Mark Nielsen (Nthn) and second seed Dan King-Turner at Pascoes the Jewellers NZ Residentials in association with Configure Express at Albany Tennis Park.
The match went for over three hours and both players were completely giving it their all. King-Turner got the first set 6/4 and was up 1-0 in the second before Nielsen held twice and broke King-Turners serve for a 3 - 1 lead. Nieslen won the second 6 - 4 to even the match out.
In the third set both players held serve all the way forcing a tiebreak. Neilsen started off well in the tiebreak but only just held off winning the tiebreak 7-4 to seal his spot in the final.
It was also a three setter in the other semi-final between top seed Rubin Statham (Akld) and Adam Thompson (Akld). Statham won the first 6 - 4 but Thompson came back to win the second 6 - 3. In the third Statham turned the match around to get the final set.
