Football : Menseguez Makes Albion Move

ALBION have completed a beat-the-deadline swoop for Juan Carlos Menseguez.

The 24-year-old right-winger has joined on loan until the end of the season, with a view to a permanent move, from ten-times Argentine Primera Division champions San Lorenzo.

The relevant paperwork was processed literally seconds before the winter transfer window closed at 5pm.

Menseguez will be available to make his Barclays Premier League debut against Newcastle on Saturday (ko 3pm) - subject to international clearance being granted.

He made 14 appearances for San Lorenzo during the Primera Division Apertura, which finished late December.

The Cordoba-born player helped his team tie on points with Boca Juniors and Tigre at the top of the 19-game championship to force a three-way play-off, before finishing third on goal difference.

The pacey wideman also has experience of competing in the Copa Libertadores - South America's equivalent of the Champions League. He started his career as a junior at South-American giants River Plate and penned his first professional contract in 2002.

Menseguez joined VfL Wolfsburg on loan during the 2003/04 campaign and sealed a permanent move to the German outfit the following season.

After three seasons in the Bundesliga, the 5ft8in ace returned to Argentina to join then-Primera Division Clausura champions San Lorenzo in 2007.

In total, Menseguez has made 136 career league appearances, including 53 as a substitute, scoring ten times.
