Sailing : Skandia Geelong Week 2009 update – Final edition

Skandia Geelong Week is all but officially wrapped up for another year and it was another resounding success which broke all records. The competition was tight on the water with many of the series results coming down to the wire.

Congratulations to all winners at the event, especially Living Doll winner of the Audi IRC Series Division 1, the last time a Victorian yacht won the overall event was back in 2002 with Lou Abrahams’ Another Challenge.

The media coverage on the event was expansive with newspapers in Spain, TV coverage in Asia, websites in Uruguay plus photographers from the USA and Scotland.

The trophy presentation will be held at the Royal Geelong Yacht Club on Sunday 8th February at 1pm. Series place getters will be notified by email with further details.

Read on below for a small sample of stories taken from the website. Make sure you visit the site to check out all the stories on every class, view the images and watch the video wrap of the event, follow the link here.

On behalf of the Royal Geelong Yacht Club and our very generous sponsors, we hope you enjoyed Skandia Geelong Week 2009 and can’t wait to see you back in 2010!

Until next time, smooth sailing to all,
SGW Team

Skandia Geelong Week surpassed all expectations once again with record entries of 473 boats and close to 5000 sailors racing across 19 categories and divisions, beating last year’s tally of 457 boats competing at Melbourne Docklands and in Geelong.
