Pleasure boating : Hidden Harbour and Shipmate combine to aid charity

Following on from their support last year, Shipmate Marine Directory, together with Hidden Harbour Motor Yacht Squadron have again combined to support Variety, the Children’s Charity.

The support comes by way of sponsorship of Team Shipmate aboard “Blue Tango” a Riviera 40, Flybridge Cruiser that will take part in the upcoming Variety Splash, 26 to 28 February.

The Variety Splash is a three day and two night boating rally on Port Phillip Bay, open to power and sail boats. Commencing at Waterfront City Docklands, Splashers have overnight stops at Mornington Yacht Club and Royal Geelong Yacht Club before heading back to Waterfront City, Docklands for an evening of fun, presentations and music.

As with all Variety events, the Splash has a serious side. Its primary objective is to raise money for children in our community with a wide range of special needs.

Monies raised goes towards Sunshine Coaches (minibuses) for children’s organisations, Liberty Wheelchair Swings for council playgrounds, specialist communication devices such as Dynavox machines and mobility equipment like wheelchairs and Second Skin Splints.

According to HHMYS Commodore Con Zisos, “Hidden Harbour Motor Yacht Squadron is a cruising club with members coming from Yacht Clubs and Marinas all around Port Phillip and Western Port. We are pleased to be able to partner with Shipmate in support of such a worthwhile charity, while at the same time supporting an event that promotes the boating lifestyle.” (For more details about HHMYS visit www.hiddenharbour.com.au)

The entry fee for the Variety Splash is a minimum $5,000 donation per boat, paid direct to Variety. In addition to the entry fee, participants pay all of their own expenses during the event including fuel, catering and entertainment. Team Shipmate is also supported by local Riviera dealer R Marine Jacksons Vic.

Last year the Variety Splash attracted 22 boats and raised more than $130,000. Organisers are expecting over 30 boats to take part in 2009. For more details on the Variety Splash Visit www.varietysplash.org.au

Shipmate Marine Directory produces the annual Victorian Boaters Essential Guide which is also available on line at www.shipmate.com.au
