Jesse Ryder will miss tomorrow’s [Thursday] BLACKCAPS warm-up match against the Prime Minister’s XI in Canberra, after aggravating a shoulder injury.
The rotator cuff injury, which has previously affected Ryder in New Zealand, flared up during training today at Manuka Oval in Canberra, according to team manager Lindsay Crocker.
An MRI scan is scheduled for this evening and a decision is likely to be made tomorrow on whether a replacement will need to be brought in to the squad. It is also unlikely that Ryder will play in the first One Day International against Australia in Perth on Sunday.
Wicketkeeper Brendon McCullum sustained a minor hip injury during today’s nets session. He responded well to physio treatment after training, however, and is likely to play in tomorrow’s match.
He will be further assessed in the morning and during the game to determine how much wicketkeeping he will do, said Crocker.
A leading Australian Under-19 wicketkeeper, Ryan Carters, has been placed on standby in case he is required to sub for McCullum during tomorrow's game.
Auckland wicketkeeper Gareth Hopkins will be brought across to Perth in case cover is required for McCullum on Sunday.
