The Karnataka Golf Association’s championship course reopened this month with an inaugural tournament involving more than 500 members.
The event celebrated a complete renovation that began less than two years ago.
In this short time, the Bangalore course has been transformed with new greens, tees and bunkering throughout, with new grass laid in all areas and new irrigation.
Importantly in Southern India’s monsoon climate, the course has been remodelled and with it, its drainage system, allowing the heaviest of rains to be managed without a single day’s loss of play.
K.Chandraprakash, captain of the club at the time the project was started, said:
“It is quite remarkable that since the opening of the first half of the renovated course, we have not failed to play for one minute. The drainage is quite perfect. We have indeed been fortunate to have had the services of Howard Swan and his design team to mastermind the programme of improvement. Their work has been inspirational, professional to the nth degree, and has given us a course which must be ranked as one of the finest in India.”
The work was recently nominated for the Best Course Renovation in Asia award.
Swan Golf Designs is currently working extensively in India, including new golf resort projects near Hyderabad in the heart of the country and at Mysore in the south.
