Tennis : Dianne Hollands and Dan King Turner win NZ Money Tournament 8

The 8th NZ Money Tournament, doubling as the 2009 Canterbury Open finished at the Scenic Hotels Tennis Centre, Wilding Park Christchurch, today with Dianne Hollands and Dan King-Turner emerging as winners.

The Women’s Final played just after midday was between the 2nd seed Shona Lee and 3rd Seed Dianne Hollands.

A run of powerful ground strokes and smart play in the third set saw Hollands wrap up her 7th New Zealand Money Tournament win of the summer.

Among the men Top Seeds Dan King-Turner and GD Jones took the court just after 2pm.

King-Turner’s reliable serve was probably the deciding factor in the first set allowing him to pressure the Jones serve and win the first set 7-5.

King-Turner was out to an early lead in the second set, and despite a brief comeback midway through the set, Jones couldn’t match the finish the King-Turner was able to muster.

The result was well received by the Canterbury crowd and it was an appetiser to the Trans Tasman Challenge tonight where these two players will take on Victorian counterparts in five sets of tennis.

The Configure Express NZ Money Tournament series will resume in North Shore City from 2 March, as a prelude to the Davis Cup and ITF Futures events run in, Albany, Hamilton and Wellington from the 9 March.
