Tennis : KING-TURNER & HOLLAND'S TAKE OUT FUJI XEROX NZMT 2

Second seed Dianne Hollands stopped the giant killing run of Tanya Samodelok in the women's final today (Friday), scoring a convincing 6-1 6-1 win at the Fuji Xerox NZMT 2 at Scarbro Tennis Centre, Auckland. Samodelok had earlier won a marathon semi-final over third seed Tracey O'Connor 6-3 3-6 6-2 to go with her upset win over the top seed yesterday. In the final she appeared tired and Hollands took full advantage forcing errors and scoring winners with sweetly hit forehands.

The men's singles final featured the top two seeds Dan King-Turner and Adam Thompson. Top seed King-Turner raced through the first set conceding only one game. He then got an early break in the second set before Thompson came to life and broke back to level at 3 all in the windy conditions. King Turner struck again immediately and shortly after served out the set 6-4 to take the match and title.

Earlier Thompson had a tough semi-final win over Robbie Cheyne who was competitive throughout the two and a half hour match. Cheyne saved seven match points when serving in the 12th game of the second set but was unable to hold off Thompson in the tiebreaker losing it 7-5 after losing the first set 8-6 in a tiebreaker.

King-Turner's semi-final was much more straight forward as he beat Wellington's Finn Tearney 6-3 6-4.
