Tennis : NATIONAL TEAMS EVENT 12U - TIMARU

Round two of the 12 and under National Teams Event got underway this morning in weather conditions opposite to those experienced in the Hardcourts. Players, Managers and Spectator were all rugged up against a southern chill early in the day before the sun reappeared in late afternoon.

Round two was reasonably conclusive with only two rubbers getting as close as 4-2. Southern Boys were unlucky to walk away from their rubber against Central with no points after two of their matches going to a third set tiebreaker.

In what is considered the hardest day of the teams event with all players taking to the court for 2 singles matches and a doubles, coupled with the fact that many of the young players being in their sixth day of an eight day stint, the players are beginning to show signs of wear-and-tear, however spirited team support is boosting morale and energy levels.

After the first two rounds the teams to beat seem to be Auckland and Central in the Boys and Canterbury and Central in the Girls. However with 3 remaining rounds the title of Best 12 and Under Team in New Zealand is still up for grabs.
