Equestrian : Laura Jumps Her Way To Lookers Chelmsford And A New Renault Koleos

Maldon show jumper Laura Renwick ended her season on a high after her win at this year’s Renault Jump series earned her the fantastic prize of a brand new Renault Koleos from Lookers Chelmsford.

Laura, aged 33 from Little Totham in Maldon, collected her new Koleos, Renault’s 4x4 crossover, from the dealership on Cuton Hall Lane after taking the title at the 2008 Renault Jump competition.

The series, now in its second year following the inaugural event in 2007 which saw Will Funnell ride his way to victory and the prize of a Renault Scénic, was held over nine rounds at county shows across England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

As the competition entered the final stage held at the Royal County of Berkshire Show, Laura was leading the points table but three other riders – Simon Buckley, Geoff Luckett and Helen Tredwell – were still in contention for the title.

First to compete was Simon Buckley riding Warrior van Dingeshof who came close to beating the current fastest time set of 43.12 seconds until a touch on the last pole put him out of contention.

Helen Tredwell went next riding Opportunity B and leaving all the fences standing, shaved over half a second off the current best time to take the lead. However, this was short-lived as Laura, riding her own nine-year-old black mare Limelight de Breve, produced a sensational clear round in just over one tenth of a second faster than Helen to take the lead.

Geoff Luckett on Pjort was the last to try and clinch the title from Laura but eight faults on his run meant Laura held on to her lead and the keys to a brand new Koleos valued at £23,000.

Laura said: “This is the second time I have competed in the Renault Jump Series, although the first was more of a learning curve. The conditions this year have just been ideal for me and the horse and, like for race horses, it can make such a difference.

“The final round was really nerve racking for me and I was literally biting my nails as Geoff came out for his run.

“I was so delighted when I knew I’d won, especially as I didn’t realise that I actually got to keep the Koleos! My husband and I were even planning on buying a new 4x4 so this prize now means we don’t need to.”

Danny Wall, General Manager at Lookers Chelmsford, said: “Everyone at Lookers Chelmsford would like to congratulate Laura on her win and for producing such an amazing performance throughout this year’s Renault Jump series.

“The Renault Koleos is a fantastic prize which combines the comfort and practicality found in a hatchback with genuine off-road ability. It also makes for the ideal towing vehicle and I know Laura will really enjoy driving it.”
