The 2009 Ocean Race will be conducted by the Royal Akarana Yacht Club in conjunction with the Cercle Nautique Caledonien in Noumea. The race starts in Auckland and finishes in Noumea, New Caledonia, a total distance of 975 nm.
Interest has already been expressed by O’Sinnerman, Cotton Blossom, Sea Harmony, Route 66, Starlight Express and Bare Essentials.
The club will ship a container to Noumea, leaving Auckland two weeks prior to the Race Start, for all those wishing to cruise the islands after the race. One-way yachtsperson air fares will be available for the return trip from Aircalin and accommodation will be available from two to five star to suit all tastes and budgets.
An Advanced Sea Survival course is being held over the weekend of 23 and 24 May 2009, and another one may be held if demand is sufficient. 50% of all crew must hold this certificate to qualify with Safety Regulations Category 1.
