White Ferns Vice Captain Aimee Mason will take the captaincy reigns for her side's second World Cup fixture against The West Indies at The Bankstown Oval, Tuesday, March 10th.
With skipper Haidee Tiffen out with a quadricep niggle and opening bowler Kate Pulford also out through injury[ shoulder strain], The White Ferns have withdrawn both players to ensure the injuries are managed successfully.
Aimee Mason experienced the captaincy role last season in two ODI's against The touring English side, but this is the first time she has captained her country in a World Cup.
Aimee Mason confirmed today The White Ferns will not be underestimating The West Indies side, she said they have a very useful and varied bowling attack, a couple of quick bowlers and two spinners.
She did admit The White Ferns had spent two very intense weeks since the drawn Rosebowl series with Australia in February, to focus on last sunday's match against Australia.
To win that match against The defending champions was the perfect start to their cup campaign but she said The White Ferns must regroup quickly and put together consistent performances if they are to be title contenders.
Aimee Mason believes this match against The West Indies holds special significance for her side in this respect.
On a personal level, Aimee Mason has one aim for The West Indies match, after her two ball duck against Australia she is very keen to spend some time out in the middle , but she was happy with the channels and the flight she used with her right arm off spin capturing 1/21 off 6 overs and is looking to bowl her full complement of ten overs against The West Indies
The White Ferns and The West Indies both have two win points from their opening GROUP A , ICC WOMEN'S WORLD CUP matches.
It's an early start for the team as they head to The Bankstown Oval for this match...they need to negotiate their way through peak hour Sydney traffic and will leave around 7-30 in the morning....Match starts 10-00am Sydney time.
