The British Racing Drivers’ Club (BRDC) is proud to announce the line-up for its Superstars programme of 2009. The Superstars initiative was launched in 2008 to support and further the careers of young British racing drivers.
In its inaugural year the programme supported 14 young drivers from a cross-section of motor racing disciplines and championships, ranging from single-seater racing in Formula Ford and the GP2 series to British Touring Cars, Le Mans and GT series drivers.
With two Championship winners in Wayne Boyd (British Formula Ford) and Jonathan Adam (SEAT Cupra), and two Vice Champions in Oliver Turvey (British International Formula 3) and Mat Jackson (British Touring Car Championship), not to mention the numerous race winners amongst the other Superstars, the BRDC has demonstrated it can recognise and nurture emerging British driving talent.
For 2009 the Superstars programme aims to continue to progress the career paths of the chosen recipients, some of whom will be staying on for a second year, while others are joining the scheme for the first time. In addition, the Club’s successful Rising Stars scheme has also supported a number of talented drivers who have now reached an exceptional level in terms of performance and commitment to make the transition to BRDC Superstar status.
The following drivers are nine of twelve to be confirmed as BRDC Superstars for 2009 (the final three are to be announced shortly):
- JONATHAN ADAM - BRITISH TOURING CAR CHAMPIONSHIP

- JAMES CALADO - FORMULA RENAULT UK

BRDC Superstars Director, Tim Harvey, comments: “I would like to officially welcome our new members to the Superstars programme and congratulate those who have been chosen to continue into 2009. In addition to access to the BRDC and the opportunities for networking with its Members, the Superstars will continue to receive direct assistance in all aspects of professional motor sport. This includes help with physical and mental training, career guidance, team building skills, sponsorship and marketing advice, access to motor sport seminars and workshops with BRDC Members, to name a few of the benefits the programme has to offer. I am very much looking forward to working with our class of 2009 and to developing the Superstars initiative even further. ”
BRDC President, Damon Hill OBE, adds: “The Superstars programme is an expression of the BRDC's original aim of being interested in furthering the careers of British racing drivers. The programme’s ability to provide sound and reliable experience, and unbiased advice, has been proven in its inaugural year by a number of Superstars becoming Full BRDC Members and their progression toward the summit of their chosen discipline within motor racing. Our intension now is for the Club’s Superstars, and indeed also its Rising Stars programme, to continue to develop into a comprehensive service for the committed driver.”
