St Helens Rugby League Club have continued their programme of investing in youth with five more signings from their successful scholarship programme.
Marcus Baines, Adam Barber, Joe Bate, Danny Jones and Josh Jones have put pen to paper and will now join the Club’s award winning Academy.
They will also be key members of the Club’s next Australia tour in October 2009.
Marcus Baines has signed from Blackbrook but has also played for Burtonwood Bulldogs. He has attended Regional Rugby League Camps and been a scholar for two years. He plays at scrum half.
Adam Barber is a centre/second row from Bold Miners. He has attended Regional and National Camps and has been a scholar for three years.
Prop forward Joe Bate, has signed from Blackbrook has been a scholar for four years. He has attended every Regional Camp and played for England under 15s last season. He is currently in the RFL’s National Training Programme in preparation for this year’s England selection.
Danny Jones is a prop/second rower from Blackbrook who started his amateur career at Haydock Warriors. He has also been a scholar for four years, attended all Regional Camps and represented England at under 15s level. Like Joe, he is currently in the RFL’s national training program in preparation for this year’s England selection.
Centre/second rower Josh Jones has signed from Blackbrook but previously played for Leyland Warriors and Chorley Panthers. He has been a scholar for four years, attended all Regional Camps and captained at England under 15s. He is currently in the RFL’s national training program in preparation for this year’s England selection.
Neil Kilshaw, Saints’ Player Performance Manager, said: “Over the next few months these five players will be integrated into the Academy set up as they finish their junior amateur careers.
“All five have great potential and we look forward to helping them with their development over the next few seasons.”
