Tickets for the inaugural event at Dubai Sports City’s cricket stadium have gone on sale this morning for the one-day international (ODI) between Pakistan and Australia.
The sides will open the 25,000 capacity stadium with the first of a five match, ODI series on Wednesday, 22 April 2009, with the second game in the series on Friday, 24 April. Following three further ODI’s in Abu Dhabi, the teams then return to Dubai Sports City for a one-off Twenty:20 match on Thursday, 7 May 2009.
“This is a defining moment in the history of Dubai Sports City,” said Macky Dudhia, General Manager, Sports Business, Dubai Sports City. “We are very proud to welcome Pakistan and Australia to Dubai Sports City for the first ever international cricket to be hosted in Dubai.”
“It promises to be a great series between two sides that approach the game with a very positive attitude. We anticipate cricket fans of all nations living in the UAE will want to come and watch two of the most attacking cricket teams competing hard. We will also cater to this wider fan base in what is truly a fantastic stadium,” added Dudhia.
The Dubai Sports City cricket stadium has been designed to provide a world class setting and is ideally suited to act as a neutral venue for world cricket. The stadium has the facilities to host test matches, one-day internationals, and Twenty20 tournaments.
