Football : Agana And Daykin In New Line-Up For The Blades

Two of Sheffield United’s best-known names have been given key appointments.

Andy Daykin, the club’s Commercial Manager, becomes Corporate Director and former star striker Tony Agana is appointed Sales Manager.
The pair will work for Blades Executive Director Mike Farnan as the club develops further commercial opportunities and partnerships in the UK and internationally.

The Championship club utilises its ever-growing diverse off-the-field business activities to support its playing ambitions.

Fifty-four-year-old Daykin, apart from a three year spell away, has been with the club since 1982. He is highly regarded in the game and is a popular commercial figure in the city. Recently, he has been instrumental in developing the flourishing relationship between United and the club’s sponsors, the Malta Tourism Authority.

“Strengthening and developing the business relationships between United and our key partners will be at the heart of my role,” said Daykin
Agana, aged 45, was one half of the Deane and Agana strike force brought together by manager Dave Bassett which famously took the Blades to the top flight of English football in 1989-90. He scored 51 goals in 147 games.

After ending his playing days, Agana graduated with a degree in computer visualisation from Sheffield Hallam University in 2004. Later, he worked for the University of Manchester and a local education software company.
Agana said: “I am delighted to be making a return to Sheffield United. Under the chairman, Kevin McCabe, the club has great ambition and I want to contribute to the future success of Sheffield United.”

Chief Executive Jason Rockett said: “Andy’s new role and the appointment of Tony are significant business moves by Sheffield United. They strengthen the club’s ability to deliver new business and equally maintain and build customer relations.

“It is important in this current climate for the club to adapt to the challenges and continue to drive revenue, ultimately to re-invest in the first team.”
