WALSALL Football Club are delighted to announce that Mick Halsall will remain as Head of Youth at the Banks’s Stadium.
Halsall had been the subject of an approach from Stoke City but has rebuffed the offer from the Premier League outfit in order to remain in his current position at Walsall FC.
During his ten-year stint with The Saddlers, the 47 year-old has been responsible for bringing through a vast array of young talent who have gone on to earn a living as professional footballers.
The likes of Andy Bishop, Karl Hawley, Matty Fryatt, Julian Bennett and Scott Dann all came up through the Banks’s Stadium ranks under Halsall’s stewardship whilst, from the current first-team squad, an impressive 11 current or former youth team players have made first-team appearances during the 2008/09 campaign.
“We are delighted that Mick sees his future here at Walsall Football Club,” explained Chief Executive, Roy Whalley. “Mick has played, and will continue to play, an integral role in this club’s fortunes.
“We have fought very hard to ensure that Mick remains with Walsall Football Club and believe that his decision to turn down an opportunity to work in the Premier League is a great reflection on the youth set-up we have here.
“We have an excellent record of producing home-grown talent and, with Mick Halsall as Head of Youth, our reputation is sure to go from strength-to-strength.”
Halsall is contracted to Walsall Football Club until 2011 after signing a three-year deal in the summer of 2008.
