Sheffield Half Marathon Reaches Another Milestone

The race has reached the milestone figure way ahead of the 2008 event, with numbers up by more than 600 from the same time last year.

Renowned for attracting runners from all ages, backgrounds and abilities, the Half Marathon again promises to be one of the biggest participation events in Sheffield’s sporting calendar and this year looks on course to reach its entry limit of 5,500.

Ian Thomas, entries co-ordinator, said: “We are delighted with the amount of entries we have had so far. It just goes to show that people are still willing to do their bit for charity, despite the economic climate.

“We are currently achieving around 250 entries a week, which is fantastic and raises the possibility that entry to the race will be closed before the day. It also shows that people haven’t been put off by the recent bout of bad weather!”

Since its launch in December last year, entries for the 2009 Half Marathon have been higher than at the same stage of any other year to date.

The SIG Insulations Sheffield Half Marathon and 3k Fun Run will take place on 26 April 2009 at Sheffield International Venues managed facility Don Valley Stadium from 9:30am.

The ten chosen charities for this year’s event are Sheffield Teenage Cancer Trust, Motor Neurone Disease Association South Yorkshire, Macmillan Cancer Support, Myasthenia Gravis Association, RSPCA Sheffield, Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Centre South Yorkshire, Sheffield Wildlife Trust, Marie Curie Cancer Care, Sheffield Royal Society for the Blind and Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice.
