Charlie Cordwell appointed Tennis Central CEO

The Board of Tennis Central are delighted to announce the appointment of Charlie Cordwell (above) as the inaugural CEO for Tennis Central.

Charlie has been extremely successful over the past year in his current role of Regional Development Manager and brings a wealth of passion and tennis experience to this new role. As CEO, Charlie will have responsibility for working with 95 tennis clubs and 7 Associations that make up the Tennis Central Region.

Charlie’s appointment to this role continues a long association with tennis in the region for the Cordwell family. He played 15 seasons in the Wellington Interclub competition, including 10 seasons in Men’s Regional 1, is a qualified coach and was a Wellington representative in 1994-5. Charlie’s sister, Belinda Cordwell was one of New Zealand’s most successful female professional players and has a court named after her at the Pelorus Trust Regional Peformance Centre which is part of the Wellington Renouf Tennis Centre complex.

Charlie has a strong background in sales, marketing and business management and is looking forward to the challenges this new role will bring. “I am delighted to be appointed to this role. To be asked to take charge of the administration and ongoing development of this game in the Central region is a tremendous honour, privilege and responsibility. I am really looking forward to the challenge.”

Charlie looks forward to building on his Regional Development Manager role and moving into the CEO position. “The last 14 months have been a big learning curve as the Regional Development team has moved to implement the strategic initiatives around game development throughout New Zealand. There is now a great platform to drive these initiatives forward.”

Tennis New Zealand CEO Steve Walker is also looking forward to Charlie taking up this senior position in the sport. “We look forward to Charlie joining the CEO group and look forward working with him to build on his positive experiences during his lifetime of tennis involvement, including his role as a Regional Development Manager, and support him moving into this leadership role.”
