O'Conner and Lyndon win North Shore City Beach Tennis Bash

Aotearoa Maori mixed doubles champions Tracey O'Conner and Eru Lyndon (above) added to their already impressive resumes today, by winning the first North Shore City Beach Tennis Bash in fine style.

They defeated NZ number one and Davis Cup player Rubin Statham, and his partner Tracy Hall in the final, which was watched by hundreds of people on Takapuna Beach.

O'Conner and Lyndon won a four day getaway to New Caledonia, flying Air Cailan.

The inaugural Beach Tennis Bash was a great success, attracting some of New Zealand top hard court players to the fray. The finalists won their way past players of the calibre of Shona Lee, Oliver Statham, Dan and Michaela Davies – among others.

Mission Bay Tennis Club owned the consolation finals, with their mixed doubles teams on both sides of the net!

In the end, Paula Stubbing and Howard Lewis edged out Kerri Maynell and Russell Smiler.

The Beach Tennis Bash is part of the North Shore City International Festival of Tennis, whch continues tomorrowwith the final New Zealand Money Tournament for this season, then the Davis Cup tie NZ vs Malaysia 6-8 March, followed next week by the ITF Futures event, the ASB Pro Circuit - all at the Albany Tennis Park.
