Titans focus on own backyard in enemy territory

Jetstar Gold Coast Titans coach John Cartwright says his side is focused more on themselves rather than their opponents heading into tomorrow’s test against St George Illawarra at WIN Stadium.

The Titans are attempting to break a drought against the Dragons, having never beaten the Red and Whites in four previous encounters since 2007.

But Cartwright said the key for his side would be concentrating on things in their own backyard rather than worrying about how to nullify their opponents.

“They’re dangerous right across the board, they’ve got very good halves, a good fullback and are dangerous around the dummy half,’’ said Cartwright of the Dragons.

“We’ve worked hard on where we think they are going to come at us, but the focus has more been on getting ourselves right this week.

“We’ve just got to focus on ourselves.

“It’s been a tough week really because we haven’t been able to do much coming off the back of the heat of the game last week.

“Mostly the week has been about attitude and how we approach the game.’’

The Titans were handed a boost on game eve today with Mat Rogers (wrist) cleared to play after getting through the club’s final training session at The University of Wollongong.

Rogers’ inclusion means the Titans will field the same 17 which took the field in last weekend’s gutsy 34-20 win over Newcastle at Skilled Park.

The match will mark Luke Bailey’s 150th NRL appearance against his former club.
